Summer is here, we can now enjoy the sea, bathing in its clean and warm waters. On boat trips with Lovit Charter, we can also see dolphins on many occasions and countless seabirds.
With the combination of good weather and holidays, summer is the time when most people start fishing, although there are several factors to take into account before getting into the world of fishing.
The most coveted summer fish
The bluefish is one of the most coveted and well-known fish among fishing enthusiasts. Luckily, this type of fish seeks warm waters and in Spain we can find them between May and October in the area of the Strait of Gibraltar, the Andalusian Atlantic and the entire Mediterranean coast. When it comes to choosing bait, we could say that it is a “thin-snouted” species, so we should use fresh bait.
The catfish is another of the most sought-after species at this time of year, and to achieve a higher percentage of success in its fishing, we must use baits that smell bad, such as prawns, for example.
The white permit is one of the fish that, in relation to its size, gives the most battle. It moves in small groups close to the coast, normally on sandy bottoms, which is why both surfcasting and spinning are very useful techniques for catching it. It tends to attack small schools of smaller fish, so the ideal bait to catch it is small, fresh fish, such as sardines or anchovies.
Equipment on board
When fishing, it is very important to choose the right equipment for the right purpose to achieve the best fishing results. For this reason, Lovit Charter recommends the use of the right depth sounder and charting equipment for effective and safe fishing.
The most effective ways to fish
Mastering summer fishing is no easy task. So let’s move on to the most common and effective technique used this season:
- Spinning fishing. It consists of casting and retrieving the hook simulating the movement of a fish, making the bait much more attractive.
- Bottom fishing. At Lovit Charter we want to give you an unforgettable experience. In bottom fishing we use the “chambel” technique, which consists of using 2 hooks per rod. The recommended fishing time is about 4 hours.
- Deep-sea trolling. Deep sea fishing off the coast of Marbella is recommended in the summer months, as the water temperature is higher and the fish from the Atlantic Ocean enter the Mediterranean Sea.
Types of rods
Different types of fishing require different types of rods. When spin fishing, it is necessary to provide movement after the cast, and these rods have features that encourage the bait to move after the cast. They also use small weights and hooks to prevent the bait from becoming lighter and easier to shake.
Casting rods are longer rods that are mounted above the handle, as opposed to spinning rods that are mounted below the reel.
Casting
Casting rods require you to lock the line as the lure sinks to avoid knots, whereas spinning rods allow you to simply release the lure as it moves and then retrieve it.
Once you understand this, all you have to do is have the patience to get into the fight. You must remember that the most desirable fish can weigh several pounds, so you must tire them enough to get them out of the water so they don’t escape or cut your line.
By keeping all this in mind, we can enjoy a great day of boat fishing in Marbella with Lovit Charter a Boat.
